Meet the Chief

  Police Chief Christopher S. Egan  
Chief-Egan-(1)Police Chief Christopher S. Egan has been employed with the Allen Park Police Department since 09/09/1999. During his career with the APPD, he has served as a patrol officer, a field training officer, motorcycle officer, safety town coordinator, sergeant, lieutenant, and he served as the President and Vice President of the Lieutenants and Sergeants Union. Chief Egan also was the commander of the 18 city Crisis/Hostage Negotiator Team with Downriver Mutual Aid and is currently the DRMA Operations Chairman, as well as the Chairman of the Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team (MNET). He currently sits on the curriculum board for the Wayne County Regional Police Academy and the FBI National Academy Associates - Michigan Chapter.  

Chief Chris Egan graduated from the FBI’s National Police Academy in 2022 and has earned a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management and Homeland Security from Eastern Michigan University, where he was awarded the 2019 Outstanding Master's Technology Student Award. He is a proud graduate of EMU's School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program in 2017 as the class 33's Vice President and Social Director. He also graduated with a triple major Bachelor Degree from the University of Michigan in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Investigations, and was named a 2012 difference maker and intern of the year. Before U of M, he obtained two associate degrees from Henry Ford College then attended the Detroit Metropolitan Police Academy and was the 1997 Class N President. The Chief was born in London, England, and it is his honor to serve the City of Allen Park, where moved to in 1971 at the age of 5 years old. 

He believes in Sir Robert Peel’s Policing Principles that state the goal is preventing crime, not catching criminals. If the police stop crime before it happens, we don’t have to punish citizens or suppress their rights. The police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.
