PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION TO BE HELD ON
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2024
CITY OF ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN
 
TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF CITY OF ALLEN PARK:
 
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that any qualified elector of City of Allen Park who is not already registered, may register to vote at the Office of the City Clerk; the Office of the County Clerk; a Secretary of State branch office, or other designated state agency.  Registration forms can be obtained at Michigan.gov/vote and mailed to the City Clerk.  Voters who are already registered may update their registration at www.expressSOS.com.
 
The last day to register in any manner other than in-person with the local clerk is Monday, February 12, 2024
 
After this date, anyone who qualifies as an elector may register to vote in person with proof of residency (MCL 168.492) at the Allen Park City Clerk’s Office, located at 15915 Southfield Road, Allen Park, MI 48101 at the following times:
  • Regular business hours: Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 25th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 pm
  • Election Day, Tuesday, February 27th from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the following Proposal will appear on the ballot:
 
Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public Schools Operating Millage Replacement Proposal
This proposal will, replace, restore and extend the authority of the School District to levy the statutory limit of 18 mills on all property, except principal residences and other property exempted by law which currently expires with the School District’s 2028 tax levy and allow the School District to continue to levy the statutory limit of 18 mills in the event of future Headlee rollbacks of up to 10 mills.  The authorization will allow the School District to continue to receive revenues at the full per pupil foundation allowance permitted by the State.
Shall the limitation on the total amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residences and other property exempted by law, situated within the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public Schools, County of Wayne, State of Michigan, be increased, in the amount of 28 mills with 18 mills being the maximum allowable levy ($18.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a period of ten (10) years, 2024 to 2033, inclusive, with 17.9046 mills of the above 28 mills being a replacement of authorized millage which will otherwise expire on December 31, 2028 and 0.0954 mills being a restoration of previously authorized millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution?  This operating millage if approved and levied, would provide estimated revenues to the School District of $7,663,145 during the 2024 calendar year, to be used for general operating purposes.
 
 
 
 
YOU ARE ALSO HEREBY NOTIFIED that Early Voting for the Presidential Primary Election will begin on February 17, 2024 and end on February 25, 2024 as prescribed by law.  The Early Voting Site for all registered Allen Park voters is the Allen Park City Hall, 15915 Southfield Rd. Allen Park, MI 48101.  Early voting hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
 
Permanent Ballot List Voters: You are scheduled to automatically receive a ballot for every election, however you need to select a ballot type for the upcoming 2024 Presidential Primary Election.  If you do not select a primary ballot type, you will not receive a ballot for the primary or will receive a local item-only ballot (MelNAP Schools ONLY).
