Precautions for Coronavirus (COVID-19 Virus)
Governor Whitmer has issued a State of Emergency in regards to the COVID-19 virus. While this is not a time to panic, it IS a time to take precautions. Most of these are common sense that should be used to prevent cold and flu viruses, but now is a time to be especially mindful:

• COVID-19 is spread through close contact, much like the cold or flu. Stay out of large public gatherings unless you absolutely must go, and stay 6 feet away from others.
• Cover all coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
• Do not touch your face. Do not itch your eyes, mouth, or nose. This is one of the easiest routes for the virus to get into your body.
• Hands should be washed often and thoroughly; 20 seconds of active scrubbing is the most helpful thing you can do to prevent transmission.
• Hand sanitizer with 60% or more alcohol content is a close second to hand washing.

The elderly and immune compromised are the most at risk for serious complications. Taking precautions to prevent the spread of disease for yourself will protect the whole community.

Here is what we suggest you do when it comes to City business:

• Do not come in to City Hall unless absolutely necessary. Most questions can be handled over the phone, or self-serve through our website. Please call if you have any questions.
• Payments can be made through several routes: you may use our online payment system (service fee applies); there is a blue drop-box located in a parking island at City Hall, close to Great Lakes ACE and Subway, where you may leave payments by check for no additional fee; you may mail payments in for no fee. Paying in person or with cash is discouraged.
• Council Meetings are broadcast on public TV, as well as uploaded to YouTube. Please do not attend a Council Meeting if it is not necessary. Council Meeting Packets are uploaded to the City of Allen Park website prior to the scheduled meeting.

Remember that this is not a time to panic, but it is a time to use common sense. If you feel sick, stay home. You may get over any illness easily, but someone that you transmit it to may not have such an easy time. Prevention is easier than cures, so let us all practice good hygiene and be mindful of others at this time. Watch this space and our Facebook page for any additional information.
