In 2013 the City of Allen Park became part of the Community Emergency Response Team.

In order to kick-start the program, the city joined forces with the City of Melvindale, which already has a large and very active CERT team.

Lt Chris Egan is the coordinator for the Allen Park CERT program, and will work in conjunction with Cpl. Rolando Hinojosa of the Melvindale Police Department, who oversees that city’s CERT operations.

The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

CERT members also support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

They are currently teaching their second CERT Academy Class at Baker College in Allen Park every Thursday. You can visit the Allen Park & Melvindale CERT Facebook page.
